Garden Harvest

I can't even tell you what a good feeling it is to have a garden! We put in a 8'X20' plot and have lots of tomatoes and various kinds of peppers. We have a cucumber plant and squash and zucchini and carrots and even a watermelon plant. Oh, and of course basil.

We love going out and picking the vegetables and checking to see if there are any ripe ones. Nash loves the yellow cherry tomatoes and will often go pick some and eat them for a snack while we are outside playing. Ava has seen us pick basil and pull weeds, so she will go over to the garden and start picking every leaf she can reach. My kids are awesome! I probably go check out my garden every single day. I love it! It is so cool to watch something grow that you planted.

I just love being able to go out and pick fresh basil to season my dinner with or a nice juicy tomato and cucumber for salad toppers. I love making zucchini soup and bread and cake, and grilled squash. I feel so domestic--I've canned some peppers and pickles and hot pepper jelly and three batches of salsa.

Yay for gardens!

What a fruitful garden, must be because it is in your OWN YARD instead of a rented Northwood plot :) Love it, and great work!

I love it!! You are a great gardener. I have never been good at that. I remember growing beans one year and figuring it was about $8/quart for what I canned.
I have only been successful with the grapes that grow in our yard--planted by previous owner & watered by automatic sprinkler.
What great skills you are demonstrating. Love, Mom

Oh, Barb! Fantastic work! This is the first time I myself have been able to grow anything in a garden that wasn't my mother's. I'm loving my tomatoes but am SO frightened of canning! Come hold my hand!

Barb, I need you to come take care of my garden! The poor thing has been so neglected this summer. I guess I have a good reason but I still feel bad for it. I am glad you are getting some delicious veggies. I think food in those canning jars always looks so pretty and makes you feel so good to realize what you have accomplished.

That's so exciting! I can't wait for that great feeling! We just bought a house and are trying to get our yard shaped up to plant a garden. We may still have time this fall for some things. I'm glad it's been a success for you!
